Situated on the edge of the beautiful village of Alstonefield within the Peak District National Park, The Old Shippon is a super little self-catering cottage for two, lying behind the owners' property, with extensive views in all directions and footpaths that begin as you step out of the front gate. In its earlier life, the cottage has been both an antique shop and a barn (a ‘shippon' is an old English word for a cattle barn). It’s now a cosy, secluded retreat with wood-burner, fully equipped kitchen, private garden and secure off-road drive parking. There are bicycles for guests to use free of charge, for the quiet country lanes and the nearby cycle trails.

Alstonefield is a small upland village in the White Peak area of the National Park, between the valleys of the Dove and the Manifold rivers. A number of small greens give the village and its pretty stone cottages a quaint and distinctive feel. St Peter's church contains many ancient artefacts, including a Norman south door, 17th century box pews and a rare, ‘double-decker' pulpit. Well-loved walks such as Dovedale, Monsaldale and Lathkill Dale are all close by.
