The boundary of the The National Forest encompasses parts of three counties. It stretches from the ancient Forest of Charnwood, just to the west of Leicester to Needwood Forest in East Staffordshire taking in the coalfield of North West Leicestershire, the former coal and clay workings of South Derbyshire and the transport corridor of the Trent Valley.
