About
Much of Cheddleton straddles the A520 immediately to the south of the river Churnet and the Caldon Canal, but the true heart of this quaint old village lies away from the main road, around the 12th century parish church of St Edward.Across the road from the entrance to the church is the pound - a plaque in the stone wall tells you this was part of the village green during the Middle Ages and was used for the impounding of stray animals. The historic Flint Mill which dates from the second half of the 18th century has been fully restored in recent years. The Churnet Valley Railway has an old Victorian country station, complete with signal box and mainline locomotives in the village. There are numerous self-guided walks available for you to fully appreciate the beauty of this area including 'Styles in Stone' and the Cheddleton Footpath Guide No. 1.
