About
Part of Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival 2022, a figure of eight walk starting / finishing in Hartington, includes pretty dales and riverside rambling. Bigginsdale is prone to flooding if there has been considerable rainfall, so an advisory note is to bring poles to navigate some of the flooded pathways. There is a steep ascent late morning ( not Gypsy Bank) and a steep descent post lunch time so again poles would come in handy. We stop in Alstonefield at lunchtime and points of interest in the village cemetery are sixteenth century and war graves commission headstones. We may not be able to use The George for a drink as it appears to be just a restaurant now, however there will be time at the end of the walk for an hour in The Devonshire Arms in Hartington. A very picturesque return in the afternoon.
