About

Stockton Brook Time & Space CIC invite you to visit a species rich traditional hay meadow on Saturday July the 6th, National Meadows Day.

This is a community event for all - families, artists and nature lovers. Come along anytime during the day, take some paper and pencils outside and do some sketching; enjoy a guided walk around the meadow and find out about the plants and insects here and the wildlife they support.

Stockton Brook Scout & Guide HQ, next to the meadow is our base for the day. There will be drinks, cakes and biscuits for a donation, and you are also welcome to bring a picnic. The meadow is next to the pictureque Caldon Canal, and there are lovely walks to discover.

We have six free meadow inspired art workshops during the day in the building, and these need to be booked as numbers are limited. You will find times and tickets when you checkout. We anticipate a high demand, so are limiting these to one workshop per person.

Drawing Nature - Inspired by a nature table, Jane James and Andrea Durrant will guide you as you make interesting, observational drawings of the natural world.

Mixed media Wildflowers - We will use a variety of artists materials, from watercolours to pastels to create paintings inspired by wildflowers gathered on site. This workshop is with Louise Adams.

Make a Wet Felted Landscape - Make a picture out of wool, using wet felting techniques. Hannah Dodd will show you how to refine the surface of your felt and add features such as trees and birds.

Ecologist Ann Cantrell, and Entomologist, Jonathan Delf are supporting us on the day with fascinating information about the flora and fauna here and why it is so important to restore and protect their natural habitats.

Just free general admission is necessary for sketching outside, and all art materials are provided with ideas and support too from artist, Mark Delf.

Wear suitable clothing and footware. The meadow will be cut for hay later in the Summer when most of the plants have seeded, so please stick to the paths.

The day is funded by the Baddeley Green and Stockton Brook Community Association and Staffordshire Moorlands Climate Change and Nature Action Fund.

The day is also supported by brilliant volunteers.
