LEEK TEXTILE WEEK
Take things one stitch at a time with this beginner-friendly embroidery workshop with Stephie from Hoop and Fred. Over the afternoon, you’ll learn all the embroidery basics while stitching a design inspired by Leeks' rich textile heritage and local flora, including dye plants such as woad.
Already an avid stitcher? Stephie will also take you through more advanced techniques and offer advice on creating your designs and patterns.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll go home with a complete embroidery kit, including threads, needles, your embroidery hoop and all the creative confidence you need to finish your hoop at your own pace!
About Hoop & Fred: Stephie is the embroidery and textile artist behind Hoop & Fred, based in Manchester but working across the North West. She began stitching during lockdown, creating work inspired by the natural and the man-made, focusing on the fine balance between delicacy and resilience. Her workshops are designed to be accessible and supportive, emphasizing the mental health benefits of spending time creating. When she isn't stitching or teaching, Stephie also works as a creative producer, organizing exciting, engaging, and accessible art events for communities that might not otherwise have access to arts and culture.
