LEEK TEXTILE WEEK
Covering buttons provided work for many women in their own homes from the 17th century, using skills passed down from mother to daughter. Button merchants kept the women supplied with silk thread from the silk mills of Leek and Macclesfield, and the buttons from these towns became recognised nationally.
In this workshop: You will learn how to create the famous ‘Death’s Head Button’, an ‘X’ shape of two different colour threads. Join heritage crafts and textiles practioner Ann Martin in this enjoyable workshop to kick-off your Leek Textiles Week Saturday, and leave a new skill, your own beautiful buttons, and a connection to our textiles heritage.
Please note that there are two sessions for this workshop:
The first session will start at 9.30 am-11:00 am
The second session will start at 11.30 am-1:00 pm
