About
The British Astronomical Association was founded in 1890. Right from the start, the membership included talented lady astronomers. In part this was because the Royal Astronomical Society did not admit women at this time. Mike's talk tells the stories of many of the pioneering women of the BAA. Agnes Clerke, astronomical historian; Annie Maunder, solar astronomer; Margaret, Lady Huggins, spectroscopist; Elizabeth Brown, solar pioneer; Fiametta Wilson and Grace Cook, meteor observers; Catherine Stevens, meteorologist; Mary Blagg, variable star expert. And Mary Acworth Evershed, Mike's predecessor as first director of the BAA's historical section.
Mike Frost is Director of the BAA Historical Section, he has been a member of the BAA since 1995, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a founder member of the Society for the History of Astronomy.
