Interested in archaeology and what could lie beneath our feet? Why not join us in our next archaeology dig from 18 to 22 March in the Castle Grounds? This is a free activity. You can pop down at any time on any day to observe progress but public participation is limited to 18th and 19th and late afternoon on 20th to 22nd March. Due to demand, participation times are limited to 20 minute sessions which must be pre-booked. You can use the drop-down below or call 01827 709618.

Background
Back in October 2022 we did our first community dig in the Castle Grounds. It was to explore an area that we believed to be the site of the castle mill. The test pit was successful as we found many interesting items but more importantly we found a wall of the mill. This second dig will now expand on this to uncover more of the mill.

18 - 19 March = digging with opportunities for public to take part.
20 - 22 March = will be limited to school participation until late afternoon.
Anyone can pop down on any day to watch and see what we find.
