A special archive film show from Ray Johnson on Reginald Mitchell, who was the famed inventor of the Spitfire aeroplane.
Born near Kidsgrove, Mitchell studied engineering and mathematics at night school. At the time he was an apprentice at an engineering works. In 1927 he became Technical Director at Supermarine. There he developed the world-famous aeroplane.
Mitchell's Spitfire became a famous emblem of World War II.
