Harrison was son of Newcastle mayor Richard Harrison.
He fought in many battles as a parliamentarian against the monarchy during The English Civil War (1642-1651).
Harrison was one of fifty-nine commissioners who signed the King's death warrant. Following restoration of the monarchy in 1660 he was found guilty of treason and sentenced to death. Harrison was hung, drawn and quartered and his bravery in the face of death was noted by famous diarist Samuel Pepys.
