About
Leek & District Historical Society
A film by Ray Johnson and Gerald Mee.
When Leek was mentioned in the Doomsday Book, it had a population of just ‘28 households’. From that insignificant beginning, this film tells the story of Leek as a market town and its steady growth in the Middle Ages, the rise and fall of its silk industry and its philanthropic mill owners, to the turn of the 21st century. There will be a display of photographs from our archive and a slection of publications on sale.
This will be preceded by our annual general meeting.
