About
Sunday 26th April will be another Open Day of our 2026 season.
Spring is definitely springing with the trees and everywhere turning green at the Woods! The oaks are always some of the last trees to flush, as we call it when the buds burst and the leaves unfurl. They are still taking their time in waking up but the bluebells are coming out, indeed over a wider area than we've ever known as a result of all the bramble clearance we did during the winter. It will make a change that an Open Day might coincide with a good display as often they have missed by a week or two either way. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the weather will work towards a good display for this coming Sunday :-)
Visitors might also notice that we have been doing some special work to help the national research effort on AOD (Acute Oak Decline). We have just cut some oak slabs as timber tissue samples from the sides of three large trees and will personally deliver these to the Alice Holt government lab. We will post more information about all that in due course. It is gutting that there is such a serious disease spreading across the country but we are doing our best to protect our trees and also to help the research work.
The main arrangements apply for the Open Day: Open from 10am to *3:30pm* with *last entry at 2:30pm*.
