About

LEEK TEXTILE WEEK

The exhibition is free to attend and no booking is needed.

Nila House - Lady Bamford Foundation (@nilajaipur) will showcase ancient Indian textiles through an exhibition and live demonstrations during Leek Textile Week. These events will offer deep insights into the artistry and cultural knowledge of traditional Indian textile techniques, providing a rich and immersive experience for all.

This exhibition will showcase the artistry of natural, undyed fibres and the artistry of traditional Indian textiles through hand-woven swatches, catalogues and photo books to celebrate the craftsmanship of artisans from the Malikpur village community. This exhibition not only honours skilled craftsmanship but also underscores the cultural heritage and community that sustain these age-old practices.

There will be an interactive art installation titled ‘In the Weaver’s Shoe’ to allow visitors to try traditional weaving techniques with Aditi Kering, a textile designer from Nila House. This piece, created by the community of Leek will be showcased at Nila House in Jaipur. This installation will reflect the historical craft exchange between Leek and India, offering a poignant commentary on their transactional history.

Additionally, you will also be able to witness live demonstrations of Kharad Weaving by Tejshibhai Dhana Marwada and Indigo Dyeing by Ojasvi Peshawaria, as they bring these age-old practices to life.
