LEEK TEXTILE WEEK
Sew Your Place is a collaborative textile art piece. It is a 2 metre by 1 metre map of the town of Leek, both in its textile industry peak, and in 2024. We invite you to add your place; the spot most important to you, a street, school, a place you played, worked, lived and loved.
Between Wednesday 25th and Saturday 28th of September, 10am-4pm we encourage everyone to drop in to add your part of the story to the map (no charge and no textile experience required!). Or you can join a sewing workshop with all materials and guidance provided.
In this workshop: Jane Hadfield will be guiding you in hand embroidery over iron-on- image transfer paper, using photographs of Leek’s industrial past. You’ll be provided with thread, needles, hoops and vintage fabric pieces to choose from and embroider with your own words, motifs or expressive stitches to create a fascinating mini-textile artwork, evoking glimpses of memory. This piece will then be added to the Sew Your Place map, and your work will form part of an important centrepiece to the first ever Leek Textiles Week.
