About

LEE TEXTILE WEEK

Sew Your Place is large-scale collaborative textile art piece. It is a 2 metre by 1 metre map of the town of Leek, both in its textile industry peak, and in the present day. We invite you to add your place by stitching; the spot most important to you, a street, school, field, pub or workplace. You could add a walking route, a garden, a mill that no longer exists, a piece of history.

Between Wednesday 25th and Saturday 28th of September, 10am-4pm you can drop in to the Foxlowe Gallery to add your part in the story to this map (Free).

In this workshop, you’ll hear a fascinating glimpse into map icons in practical maps and in art, and be guided in designing and drawing of your own signs and symbols for this unique and personal map of Leek. You’ll use Derwent inktense pencils and fineliners, plus embroidery equipment to test your designs in stitch. You’ll be able to take all work home and return to the Foxlowe during Leek Textiles Week to add your chosen symbols to the map artwork.

Admission £10.00
