A Still Life Painting Day with Louise Adams

Join acclaimed artist and designer, Louise Adams, for an inspiring day of still life painting at the Barewall Art Gallery Studio in Burslem.

Louise studied ceramics at the Royal College of Art and went on to design for Minton before spending 18 years as Art Director at Royal Crown Derby. This is a chance to learn from her experience of working with colour, pattern and some of the finest ceramics made in the Potteries in an intimate setting.

Working from a carefully arranged still life of original Wood's Ware ceramics, textiles, seasonal flowers and decorative objects, you'll create your own painting in gouache and ink. The day begins with relaxed drawing exercises before Louise introduces the vivid colour and distinctive qualities of gouache – a medium long favoured by professional artists and designers for its depth, opacity and intensity of colour.

Her demonstrations and individual guidance will help you explore shape, composition, blending and contrast as your painting takes form.

Louise's warm, encouraging approach makes the day welcoming for beginners and experienced artists alike. Places are limited to 12, keeping the setting relaxed and allowing time for personal tuition throughout the workshop.

Lunch, refreshments and all materials are included. There will be time to enjoy the company of fellow guests in Barewall's creative surroundings, and you'll take home your finished painting
