About
LEEK TEXTILE WEEK
After the death of his beloved wife, textile artist Allan Brown embarks on a seven-year endeavour to weave a hand-spun dress from stinging nettles foraged in the woods surrounding his home. This beautifully crafted documentary sensitively chronicles his journey as he channels his grief into a tribute to her vibrant spirit. The film guides us through Brown's process, from foraging plants and harvesting fibres, to spinning thread, weaving cloth, ultimately transforming the materials into a nettle dress worn by their daughter. In doing so, he reveals both the cyclical nature of life and the restorative power of nature.
Following the film, star of the film, textile artist Allan Brown, and Director Dylan Howitt will be in conversation with Kate Fletcher, a leading global expert in design for sustainability. There will also be an opportunity to see the Nettle Dress itself!
The film has played to sell-out audiences around the country. Not to be missed!
The bar will be open before the film, and visitors can browse The Exhibition of Natural Fibres in the bar area. Upstairs, the Foxlowe Art Gallery will also be open from 6.30-7.30pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the Leek Textile Week exhibition and perhaps add some stitches to the Sew Your Place community map.
